Enrollment

The Enrollment Process

Learn more about Early Access to Educational Services, K-1

Step 1: Become familiar with Mapleton Public Schools.

  • Read about our 17 exciting school options! Learn more about Mapleton's individualized learning communities and school locations.
  • Visit or call the Welcome Center to speak with a Mapleton representative who can answer your questions and help you find the perfect match for your child. Set up a tour and meet directors, teachers and students.

Step 2: Complete an Enrollment Application for your child. To obtain an enrollment application:

  • Download an application. Print the form and fill it out completely. Please fill out one form per student.
    OR
  • Visit the Welcome Center to pick up a copy of the Enrollment form and receive any additional information you may need. Enrollment forms take 5-10 minutes to complete.

You may drop off the completed enrollment forms at the Welcome Center:

Welcome Center
Skyview Main Campus
8990 York Street
Thornton, CO 80229

The Welcome Center is open Monday-Friday 8 a.m.– 4 p.m.
When filling out an enrollment form, all families are asked to bring:

  • a photo ID
  • proof of residence (i.e. water/utility bill)
  • a copy of your child's birth certificate

In-district families:

  • In-district families will receive transportation to any school of their choice if they live more than 1.5 miles from the school.
  • We are able to accept in-district IEP students.

Out of district families:

  • We are not able to enroll out of district students who have an IEP or Special Education needs.
  • If a family is out of district and not receiving any special education services, we can usually accept them. Out of district students under suspensions or expulsions from another district will have their applications sent to Student Services for review before placement.
  • The District is not able to provide transportation for out of district students.
  • The enrollment window for out of district students closes October 1st. Out of district families applying for enrollment after October 1st will be given information for the following year's enrollment window.

Enrollment Windows:
The enrollment window from current in-district students begins in March.

  • Students currently enrolled in a Mapleton school will be automatically rolled up into the next grade at their current school unless:
    • The student is entering a grade that their current school does not have as part of their design (i.e. an 8th grader going on to 9th grade at a K-8 school will need to come to the Welcome Center to fill out an enrollment application and choose a new school with a 9th grade.)
    • The student would like to enroll at another school within the District. They would then need to come into the Welcome Center to fill out a new enrollment application.

The enrollment window for new to the district students and out of district students begins near the second week of April.
On October 2 the out of district enrollment window closes and we are no longer able to accept out of district students.

Step 3: Student Placement
On the enrollment form students are asked to select three (3) school options. If space allows, students will be placed in their first choice. If a student is not able to receive their first choice because of space availability, their name will be added to a wait pool for that particular school and the family will be contacted if a space becomes available.
Depending on the time of year we may be able to place your child right away. If we are in our enrollment window, typically February through May, we will process your application and send you a letter with confirmation of your child's placement after the enrollment window has closed.

Important Notes:
Special Education Services: If your child receives any special education services, the enrollment process may take up to two weeks. We coordinate with our Special Services Department on an individual basis to ensure that we have the resources to support your child's needs at your school of choice.
Transportation: The District is committed to providing choices for learning for all students. To that end, the District will bus students to their school of choice. Students must live outside of a mile and a half radius of their school of choice, and be picked up within District boundaries. For details, please call the transportation department at 303-853-1024.
